About BD

The Alabama Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Bridge to the Doctorate (BD) Program is sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). It provides financial support to eligible students for two years of graduate study in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

The goal of the program is to increase the production of new minority Ph.D.s and their entrance into productive faculty or research careers.

  Agricultural Sciences: Agricultural Economics, Animal Sciences, Poultry Science, Entomology, Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture, Forestry, Wildlife Sciences, Horticulture, Nutrition, Food Science, Plant Sciences

  Engineering: Aerospace, Biosystems, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Systems, Materials, Mechanical, Polymer and Fiber, Software, Wireless

  Life Sciences: Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Botany, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Zoology

ELIGIBILITY

  Bachelor’s degree in a STEM program from an LSAMP institution

  Minimum 3.0 GPA

  Acceptance into Graduate School

  Meet the requirements of a STEM graduate department or program

  Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a doctoral degree in a STEM discipline

  U.S. citizen or permanent resident
